JuanPC Budget PC October 2009 Edition

Memory: Kingston Value Ram DDR2-800 2x2gb | 2x1gb Kit DDR2 800

kingston-DDR2-800-2gb-Kit

Price: 2300 Pesos

I’m going have to convince everyone to try and get 4gb of memory of DDR2-800 if they can spare some cash for it. DDR2 is one its way out and this may a case of being able to get it as cheap as it can go.

As DDR2 is being phased out for the “mainstreaming” of DDR3 the prices for it will climb. And we feel that its one of those times where you can shell out more inorder to future proof your rig. If not for performance then for upgrade costs. With Win7 looming just over the horizon it’d be best to be ready with 4gb RAM. If you are still using XP ( XP-32 ) then don’t worry you’ll get to use about a gigabyte or more with your 2x2gb sticks.

The Kings Value RAM DDR2-800 2x2gb can be found for as low as 3200 pesos. If budget is really tight and you don’t game much or edit photos intensively then you can make do with 2x1gb sticks of the same brand, Kingston Value RAM.

Hard Disk: Seagate Barracuda 500gb 7200.12 16mb ( ST3500410AS )

Price: 2450 Pesos

Wow since our last guide Seagate has finally brought their amazing 7200.12 drives to our shores. We have two of these 7200.12s at the JuanTech lab and the equivalent WD black drives.

Originally priced above 3000 pesos the 500gb single platter drives from Seagate have dropped to unbelievable prices. With the highest platter density ( 500gb/platter ) in its class these drives are speedy, small and are pleasantly cool. Plus they are single platter drives which JuanTech likes very much :)

Case: Duke Duo8A-BK

Price: 1640 Pesos

There are many many low priced cases out there. A trip to Gilmore and you’ll find Yellow, Pink, Colorless, Square cases and even a “Transformers” case! Finding a beautiful case depends on ones taste and mood. However finding a case that “performs” is not.Frontier Technology Inc.’s Duke DUO has long been the favorite of many a system builder out there and the DUKE DUO-8A is it’s latest incarnation.

This case emphasizes cooling and offers some cable management holes. It also has a removable tray and comes with two fans pre-installed. All this will keep the JuanPC running cool and looking neat.
